Choosing Health identifies the need to make "every contact a health improving contact".
As part of its ongoing consultation on the needs of staff, CEHI is asking in relation to sexual health the following questions.
1. What training do you need?
2. What kinds of activities or information would it be useful to share between practitioners, teams, services and organisations?
3. What sorts of information, data or advice would it be helpful to access?
4. What kind of support or training do you need in order to make best use of the weblog?
We'd be grateful if you could take time to consider the above questions and then use the COMMENTS link below to add your responses.

1. Regular updates on new developments in sexual health, new ideas of selling it to people.
Tips on how to introduce the subject to clients who haven't asked for it. How to get over the embarrassment issue.
2.As above, as well as more on the ground intelligence about what is happening in specific areas so we are able to make specific responses.
3. Advice on how to handle situations, sometimes worried that if I raise the issue with clients they will ask me questions i don't know the answer to.
4. Being reminded!...maybe a few tantalising titbits on e-mail to encourage me to look what is happening on the blog.

1. I feel that I have a working knowledge of most of the sexual health aspects covered today, however, I would require more indepth training on some of the more specialised subjects i.e;homophobic bullying,STAG.
2. More days like today, It was really helpful to meet everyone, and putting faces to names. It makes it much easier to have a contact. A little knowledge that I have gained today will enable me to signpost relevant services as and when required.
3. Localised figures would be really helful.
4. Found it quite easy, but would like a bit more time to play around with it.

2.More days like today. Also an up to date directory of people, posts, projects and telephone nos. which is updated on a regular basis.
3. Localised figures (ideally based on school catchment area) for teenage pregnancy, TOP, STI rates.
4. Very easy to use

Working within the sex-ed programme I feel I have gained a great deal of knowledge already, but I would like to complete the accredited sexual health course.
days like today are a very useful source of information sharing, the speed dating exercise was an excellent way of finding out about a number of different services in a short space of time.
Teenage pregnancies rates,STI rates,in our local areas.
I feel quite competent at using the web-log, but still feel further training in computers would be useful.

In order to make best use of the weblog I would like to explore how to make the weblog accessible to groups of young men in order to develop an effective and alternative reference point for young men to support each other and steer my work.

to be made aware of the type of sevices available in the Gateshead area.(to pass information on to clients)
Have some training in the use of the website and the internet in general. (inhouse?)

Question 1
On going support for training requirements to enable me to remain an ambassador for the Sexual health Services. One of the ways we could promote training currently offered could be advertised on the site or PCT intranet.
Question 2
A display of literature or posters that can be accessed by users.
Question 3
Availability of clinics and services. Not sure if this is the way to promote and advertise the services but perhaps an idea for developing the internet
Question 4
One of the problems with using the weblog is time. Perhaps an e mail regularly would be helpful to remind us its there or what the current subjects being discussed are. However, the e mails shouldn't be too regular due to volume of 'everyone' e mails we already get. Woul suggest weekly.

More upfront data e.g. rates teenage pregnancy/conceptions for Gateshead etc. better informed and raising the issues with confidence

1. I think we can constantly update our own training needs - I prefer to access training that is specific to my area of work. I think it would improve people's own and the young people they work with if they accessed some sexual health training.
2. Information about individual roles within the Sexual Health Promotion Service, as well as information about accessing services and resources.
3. Links to other web sites dealing with specific sexual health issues.
4. Regular use of the site would enable the site to be more accessible to me. Also having information that was specific to my working area would encourage me to access the web site on a more regular basis.

I beleive that we need to take the issues of Sexual Health on board and generate a fuller understanding of how we all contribute to the general sexual well-being of our service users. It is often assumed that Sexual Health only relates to GUM Clinics and diseases..... perhaps now is the time to ensure that all service provision takes sexual health into account?

I'm currently working with a group of Young Men & Boys Workers at a Regional level, supported by the PCT. We are holding a meeting in January to explore ways to promote our work and share the wealth of resources and good practice that has evloved in the past 5 years. One of the options being discussed is development of websites and blogs. Could we use CEHI to create an online resource library rather than developing our own?

today has been very valuable to find out the future of Gatesheads sexual health services.
the opportunity to network with others has been a great experience.

It would be beneficial to have training like the sexual health and young people's course which would enable us to deliver sessions to the community on a basic level which enables them to identify where they are and where they want to be.
Sharing working practices, opportunities for partnerships and generally the service we can all provide and where to contact each other. There are a lot of services which i didnt know existed and as a youth and community worker i think that meeting people and having the knowledege and contacts to be able to take people to the service that they need is invaluable.
Contact information and specific project information would be good to access.
To be able to use the weblog i just need the opportunity to access it and be made aware of what resources there are available.

I work within the school health team in January I will be based with two of my colleagues in a comprehensive that has various health needs I want to access all relevent training so as this new role is a pilot I can ensure that I am giving the best advice and can interact with my higher graded colleauges to the best of my ability.

I feel it is important to keep updated. Have access to appropriate training courses. Talking to other workers is always really useful and gives you more contacts.
When given the opportunity to share practice, you can pick up a lot of useful information. Get fresh ideas.
Enjoyed using it

1. As a manager I tend to prioritise training for staff and would like some training for people like me who manage sexual health workers. need to think about content here!
2. Speed dating format this morning was a great way to get a quick review of activity in an area, perhaps the same format could be used to give those working outside the SH field a more in depth view of a particular service
eg Boys and young mens work, could include Gay and Bi sexual mens work, could include BME. That way you could buy into the relevant ones.
3. Would be good to access outcomes / feedback from reports from any consultation events, with young people and others.
4. Just need to be forced to do it, I avoid websites! Will ask staff

1.Need more ideas for lesson plans on homophobic bullying.
2.Days like today, bring in education to be able to get into schools.

Really enjoyed yesterday's event, and thanks to everyone who came. Keep an eye on this site for further information, or to ask specific questions about the work of the Sexual Health Team and how you can join us on our journey.
