The Picker Institute has just completed a major review of the effectiveness of patient and public involvement strategies, and their impact on health care quality.
Funded by the Health Foundation, the report focuses on the benefits and costs of strategies for:
Improving health literacy - what is the impact of health information, and what are the most successful ways of presenting and delivering information to patients?
Improving clinical decision-makiing
Improving self-care - what are the benefits of self-management courses (including the Expert Patients Programme), and how else can patients be supported to actively manage their long-term health conditions?
Improving patients' involvement in patient safety
Improving access to health advice
Improving the care experience
Improving service development
