England goes smoke free on 1st July

From 1st July 2007 virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England will become smoke free. A smoke free England will ensure a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke. Smoking kills between 5.000 and 6.000 people across the North East region every year and breathing secondhand smoke also kills 35 of the region's workers each year.

Find out about the national campaign to promote the legislation at www.smokefreeengland.co.uk or telephone 0800 169 1697

Gateshead Council can offer support for local businesses to help them comply with the legislation.

hiya gud site it makes me think weather ma mum and who eva else in ma familly smoke will give up lol

Honestly, it's weird, I'm a free man and I could do whatever I want but unfortunately I can't smoke in public places.

It isn't weird at all. We are all free to an extent, but we aren't free to harm other people.

That's why you can't drink and drive, nor fire guns indicriminately in the street. You are free to drink responsibly, to drive responsibly and to use guns in an appropriate place if you are suitably licensed.

You can still smoke at home, in your own car and outside the pub.
