Gateshead's Health Improvement Capacity Building Programme commenced in September 2010 to generate skills, knowledge and capacity across the wider workforce. 

The programme will focus on the central role of the local government workforce in improving public health and aims at engaging all level of the organisation through the following activities:

• Leadership
• infrastructure
• Organisational change and development, and
• Health related training
