• Peter Wright commented on Pubs and clubs smoke free from 1st July 2007: Hilton Club concert rooms are not exempt from the Smokefree legislation. An exemption for clubs was an option when parliament voted on the Health Act in February 2006, but it was heavily outvoted. If you change career and take up acting, the Government did include an exemption to allow stage actors to smoke if it is critical to the performance. Theatres and rehearsal rooms have to be smoke free for rehearsals, the exemption only applies to performances. I have been told that concert rooms in workingmens and social clubs will be exempt from this lgistlation. I will be most annoyed if this is true. As an entertainer it can be argued that we are more at risk than the general punter, because to do your performance you have to breath in quite a lot and quicker than say a member of the audience. Currently staff are asked to log examples of service development/innovative practice with Clinical Audit team, Locality Matrons (Service Development proposals) and CEHI...We should think about how we can ensure that only one set of documentation is completed and is migrated across to all of the relevant databases/departments.

We would like to use World Mental Health day to raise awareness of issues in mental health. The Govt. consultation makes provision to raise the age to 18 only. The only thing I can think of is that it may be the 'Challenge 21' scheme, which is being adopted by Local Authorities across the country and primarily tackles alcohol. This seems to be causing some confusion with regard to cigarettes as retailers, ASDA for one, are currently publicizing it in relation to tobacco. I have attached an explanation below: The Challenge 21 initiative encourages retailers and licencees to seek proof of age from anybody who appears to be under the age of 21. The scheme was introduced because it was recognised that it can be very difficult to assess the age of a young person and to ident

• Mark Lambert commented on Choosing Health - an hour to walk, talk and be informed: We heard a lot of feedback, whilst we were out and about, in response to my concerns about immunisation rates locally. As a result I have met up with Gateshead's immunisation co-ordinator, and a representative from the Childrens Centres in Gateshead. We have come up with a plan to get more people better informed over the next year. We will also look at alternative ways of offering immunisations for those who find it difficult.

In areas where smoking prevalence was thought to be high, they asked newsagents to hand out "cigarette coupons" when selling cigarettes. The "coupon" contained contact details for the local Stop Smoking Services. I have shared the idea with the local Gateshead and South Tyneside Stop Smoking Service. The sleeves advertised the Stop Smoking Service telephone number, which they said increased the volume of calls by 500%. Could this work in Gateshead?

Sharing working practices, opportunities for partnerships and generally the service we can all provide and where to contact each other. There are a lot of services which i didnt know existed and as a youth and community worker i think that meeting people and having the knowledege and contacts to be able to take people to the service that they need is invaluable. It is difficult to get up to date info esp which reflects current changes in housing stock and regeneration. The figures are often more than 2 years old which means you develop services for a community which may no longer exit.

One of the ways we could promote training currently offered could be advertised on the site or PCT intranet. Question 2 A display of literature or posters that can be accessed by users. Question 3 Availability of clinics and services. Not sure if this is the way to promote and advertise the services but perhaps an idea for developing the internet Question 4 One of the problems with using the weblog is time. Perhaps an e mail regularly would be helpful to remind us its there or what the current subjects being discussed are. However, the e mails shouldn't be too regular due to volume of 'everyone' e mails we already get. Woul suggest weekly.

Teenage pregnancies rates,STI rates,in our local areas. I feel quite competent at using the web-log, but still feel further training in computers would be useful.

I feel that I have a working knowledge of most of the sexual health aspects covered today, however, I would require more indepth training on some of the more specialised subjects i.e;homophobic bullying,STAG. 2. • Peter Bolger commented on Some useful statistical links: Firstly, congrats on your first blog post - good stuff! Links management, as you infer, is an important element to the site. I propose to handle this using a web-based "social bookmarking" tool called FURL. Social in the sense that we should be sharing useful links and not retaining them within our personal fave/bookmark lists. On the right hand panel of the main page, scroll down to Health Links and click the "see archive" icon. This will take you to the GatesheadGrid furl account page (used for demo purposes at this stage) and then simply Filter by Topic and choose Health. FURL is also fully searchable. One of the next jobs I have to do is to create a CEHI account on FURL and then obviously the entire focus will be on Health related links. The CEHI site is pulling in a feed from FURL
• Peter Wright commented on Some useful statistical links: It was pretty easy posting these links, and I appreciate that the posting will be stored for posterity under the 'statistics' heading. To make it easier for users, how do we collate and categorise the links from 10 messages like this so that a future user could easily find the one they want? Collecting all of the postings together in a category but is a bit like a jumble sale - you have to sort through a load of boxes to find what you want, you might find it, you might spend time looking but it's not there, you might miss it in the jumble. My aspiration for the site is that the nuggets of information are arranged like a supermarket rather than a jumble sale, because a bigger proportion of the population shop in supermarkets.

Well done to everyone involved, I can't think of any event that I've been to in the last 20 years that has been so successful in inspiring people to take positive action.
