Falls Awareness Day - 24th June 2008

Falls%20Awareness%20Day.JPG

A group of health professionals in Sunderland are holding an event aimed at the over 65's to raise awareness of "falls" and "falls Prevention".

This initiative will take place in the "Market Square" at the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland between 10am and 2pm on the above date...

The event will promote activities that older people can do to remain independent in later life and inform them of how to reduce their risk of falling and fractures. This will include a health check, advice and information from a multi disciplinary Team.

Several key organisations are supporting the day including Age Concern, Sunderland Carer's Centre, Community Furniture service, Home Improvement Agency and several others.

The poster for the event can be downloaded HERE (125k). If you have any other queries in the meantime then please call Christine Pigford (Sunderland Falls Co-ordinator) on 0191 5026912.
.
We look forward to seeing you on the day!

Breastfeeding Awareness Week - Gateshead Events

This year’s campaign will be encouraging mothers from low-income backgrounds to initiate and continue to breastfeed their baby. The campaign focuses on encouraging women to access the support that will help them to breastfeed for longer, and the strapline, ‘Breastfeeding: every day makes a difference to your baby’, reflects the message that each day a women continues to breastfeed is another day the child receives important health benefits from its mother’s milk.

Sexual Health Event - 4 Questions

Choosing Health identifies the need to make "every contact a health improving contact".

As part of its ongoing consultation on the needs of staff, CEHI is asking in relation to sexual health the following questions.

1. What training do you need?
2. What kinds of activities or information would it be useful to share between practitioners, teams, services and organisations?
3. What sorts of information, data or advice would it be helpful to access?
4. What kind of support or training do you need in order to make best use of the weblog?

We'd be grateful if you could take time to consider the above questions and then use the COMMENTS link below to add your responses.

[Thanks to the very many of you who attended today's event and who took time to comment via the blog.

Choosing Health? How can we keep the journey going?

Following the 'Choosing Health' event, which was held at Gateshead Civic Centre on the 2nd February 2005, we have collated and analysed all the feedback that was given on the day. If you attended the event you will remember we asked you three things you can do to keep the journey going. This has now been analysed and drawn together in the following document. Download file

This document will be used in pushing forward the 'Choosing Health' agenda in Gateshead. We will be addressing this document in more detail at the next 'Choosing Health' event we are planning in May 2005. So watch this space!

Also, on the day you were asked to express your interest in the topic areas discussed. If you can't remember what you signed yourself up for, or you're interested to see who else is signed up, then here is a list to refresh your memory. Download file
